Advisory Group Role
The Zoning and
Subdivision Code Update Advisory Group has been assembled
through the initiative of the Mayor & Council to balance
and represent the breadth of interests and issues that
emerge from the Missoula community during the course of
this 2 year project to update the City’s development
regulations.
The group is
comprised of geographic and interest-based stakeholders.
And while loyalty to one’s turf or agenda is natural, it
should not thoroughly govern a member’s participation. In
many ways this is a growth process for the City and
everyone should keep an open mind in the interest of
Missoula’s future.
This is an Advisory
Group. The role of the group is to review material, digest
issues, propose ideas, channel feedback and articulate
community priorities in a balanced, thoughtful way. The
group is expected to participate in a collaborative manner
that supports the work of the staff team toward completion
of the project. The Advisory Group should also be timely
and forthright with staff about any concerns over the
process or the product that is emerging.
The group is not
expected to elect a chair or conduct their meetings by
Roberts Rules. They are not empowered to set policy or
forward a final decision. And while consensus is not
expected or even necessarily desirable with a project like
this, patches of consensus that are encountered along the
way will be valuable for making progress on some of the
most difficult growth issues facing the City today.
